White Painting [seven panel], 1951. Oil on canvas, 72 x 125 x 1 1/2 inches. Collection of the artist.
I think I’m attracted to these series of white paintings
because I am at a place where I am trying to clear my mind of what is considered ‘good’ or ‘bad’ art. I am drawn to this idea of Valéry’s blank sheet
and the beauty and hidden potential and possibilities inherent in white space.
