Night & Day 2015

NIGHT AND DAY 2015

#TheCanonicalHoursProject

These large scale works were inspired by The Canonical Hours Project I completed in 2015. They try to capture a feeling at four times of the day:

1. Prime (6AM): Waking up
2. Sext (12PM): Daytime
3. Compline (9PM): Falling Asleep
4. Matins (12AM): Dreamtime

Waking Up

6AM: WAKING UP

2015, acrylic on canvas, 64 x 48 inches

This work was inspired by lines from
a poem by Rumi:

“Both light and shadow are
the dance of love...”

Before or After the Storm

12PM: DAYTIME STORM

2015, acrylic on canvas, 62 x 45 inches

Isn’t it sometimes hard
to tell the difference
between the time
the storm is about to hit and
the time right after
it has passed?

Rising or Falling

9PM: FALLING
ASLEEP

2015, acrylic on canvas, 64 x 48 inches

Feeling
the weight of gravity
and a sense
of being lifted
at the same time

Dreamtime

MIDNIGHT: DREAMTIME

2015, acrylic on canvas, 64 x 57 inches

There is so much
mystery in the night.
A painting about the
colors and shapes
of the night is
even a mystery to me --
truly like a dream.

A Beautiful Darkness

A BEAUTIFUL
DARKNESS

2015, acrylic on canvas, 34 x 43 inches

In a lightness,
a connection,
a curiosity,
a passion
that inspires a
creative, spiritual life

A Giving Sun

A GIVING SUN

2015, acrylic on canvas, 34 x 43 inches

The clarity and light
of a giving sun at dawn
One that brings life to all
sustains our survival
Nourishes the earth
and world we know

Night and Day (poems)
