Authenticity (poem)

Posted on February 21, 2015 by aks

Inspired by a guide to try to express in poem what authenticity means. This isn’t quite done. I feel like the words need a better rhythm to them — but it’s at least a start.

There’s an ancient feeling lurking
The grayness in a soul
an invisible inner fog
that cannot be seen or heard
With no smell or taste
You still know it’s there
You know it has always been there

Different people see it
in different degrees
But mostly it is ignored,
repressed, suppressed, denied
For all the reasons our mind rationalizes
Sometimes violently,
sometimes compassionately

Only really known
by the honesty of a wild beast
joining the eyes and mind and heart
in perfect intuition
A rediscovered human sense
A secret power
Seeing, living and giving
from who you truly are
