pay attention…
These large scale works were inspired by
The Canonical Hours Project
I completed in 2015. They try to capture a feeling at four times of the day:
1. Prime (6AM): Waking up
2. Sext (12PM): Daytime
3. Compline (9PM): Falling Asleep
4. Matins (12AM): Dreamtime
This work was inspired by lines from
a poem by Rumi:
“Both light and shadow are
the dance of love...”
Isn’t it sometimes hard
to tell the difference
between the time
the storm is about to hit and
the time right after
it has passed?
Feeling
the weight of gravity
and a sense
of being lifted
at the same time
There is so much
mystery in the night.
A painting about the
colors and shapes
of the night is
even a mystery to me --
truly like a dream.
In a lightness,
a connection,
a curiosity,
a passion
that inspires a
creative, spiritual life
The clarity and light
of a giving sun at dawn
One that brings life to all
sustains our survival
Nourishes the earth
and world we know
These are paper works I made inspired by poems I wrote while working on this series.
These are works on paper that were studies for the ‘Waking Up’ and ‘Daytime’ paintings of this series.
